One of my hobbies is embroidery and I do it by hand. Most of my work is given as gifts and I embroider items such as pillow cases, sheets, guest towels, homemade baby blankets, sunbonnets and aprons. My latest project was a Christmas gift which was a set of four aprons with each season depicted. The person I gave these to has been showing them around and now I’m getting loads of offers from people who would like to buy some of my stuff. The thing is, I’m not sure how much I should charge! Has anyone got a clue?

These are labours of love ~ there is no doubt about that.

You might begin by looking on line to see what is being asked for such products by other people. The challenges are around product coming from Asia where people are embroidering all day long for next to nothing.

One might consider just asking the people asking you to do the work what they would be willing to pay for the work as well. That will help you understand if this is something you wish to pursue.

Lovely to hear that people are still doing this type of love gesture with cloth ~ lovely

Take the cost of all the material use and then count your time to make the item. Total that up and double it. If it sells you made a profit.
On the time issue use min wage for your state. If you get lots of orders then slowly increase your prices until you can catch up. You may also know someone that likes to embroidery ask if they will help. Pay them half of what you earn in profit.

    1. Search the internet for what others charge for the items.

    2. As you buyers what they want to pay.

    3. Your hour wage+material cost+profit.

Combining 3 together, you will get your idea.
