Lately I’ve been trying to come up with some ways to make money.

I’m 5 months pregnant, and OBVIOUSLY pregnant. As I have discovered, no one seems to want to hire a pregnant woman. It’s frustrating, so I’ve turned to an at-home business or something along those lines.

I realized what I love doing–sewing.

Now, I’m not great. In the school of sewing I would just about to be out of kindergarten!

For Christmas I mastered the art of sewing an apron for my sister-in-law and her husband. I can make 2 aprons in about 45 minutes from cut to completion.

Last night (really this morning at 2 AM) I realized that I could possibly make money off of Ebay (or somewhere else) by making aprons and selling them!

I figured I could spend around 5-6 hours each day making aprons, which is during the hours my son sleeps. It’s something that’s quick, easy and doesn’t require much. In addition, my mother would be more than happy to assist.
The questions are:
1) Would you be interested in buying my aprons (no, I’m selling them right now)?

2) How much WOULD you pay for one of these aprons?

Here is a miniature apron I made for my sister-in-law’s baby shower for whenever they become pregnant:

In the larger version, the ties are also colored differently on either side.
I should mention this is the same fabric I used for the SIL and hubby’s aprons, thus the reason I used it to make one for their future baby shower.

First of all I just bought a 3 pk of aprons at Sam’s for $9 (my in-laws own a tea & coffee business and I am going to get them embroidered as a gift) so I hope you understand that there is not a big mark-up. You need a nich. Personalize them or go Diva with some feathers or frill. If you want to make money sewing learn how to sew drapes or children’s clothes. Custom window coverings are expensive. Good luck to you.

I admire your drive and determination….and the pictures are cute. However, I am not sure how practival aprons are today.

I cook quite a lot at home and entertain…and never wear an apron…usually I am in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Once the food is about ready…I run upstairs and change before anyone arrives.

In addition, it seems that everyone is building big, fancy kitchens…but, we find few people that really cook at home…so, the need is probably not there.

On the other hand…it could possibly be a cute decoration for a kitchen.

They look good, however what makes your product different than other aprons out there. I’ve seen very retro frilly aprons in boutiques sell for $50plus (I know because I’ve wanted one for a while now). Then you wouldn’t even need to go through ebay you could make clients locally (store owners).

Everyone makes those butcher style aprons and it would be hard to personalise them. If you have a look at e-bay and some other sewing sites that sell aprons you will find the bigger prices are paid for vintage style half and bib aprons. I wear a pinafore style that has arm holes and buttons at the neck and ties at the waist. I think you would need to find a new style and hope it took off. Another apron I have is a bib apron which has long ties going over the shoulder crossing at the back going through loops in the waist band and tying in back as normal. I haven’t seen that style available (I had mine made) maybe something you could look at.

When you try to sell things hand-made there shoule be some very special design or ideas. If not then you can’t profit from selling them at all. Even at eBay you will lose money spending on advertising because your item will be buried out because of tons cheaper items.
